Bangladesh PM Sheikh Hasina Resigns and Takes Refuge in India as Protests Intensify

In a dramatic development, Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina resigned on August 5, 2024, amidst escalating protests. She has reportedly taken refuge in India, a location where she and her family had previously sought shelter during a military coup.

This situation, however, does not involve a coup. Instead, protesters have breached the Prime Minister's official residence in Dhaka following news of her departure. Students opposing the government's proposed quota system, under the group name Students Against Discrimination, have initiated a "Long March to Dhaka," even though the Bangladeshi government has completely shut down internet access to try to quell the protests.
